Learning to drive doesn’t have to be stressful. At Go Automatic, we strip away the anxiety of stalling, gear-crunching, and hill-starts, leaving you free to focus on what really matters: the road ahead.

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to regain your confidence, we make driving simple, safe, and surprisingly fun.

Why Choose an Automatic?

Learning in an automatic car is a much quicker, smoother, and less stressful experience. By removing the manual clutch and gear stick—two of the biggest hurdles for learner drivers—you can focus entirely on road safety and traffic conditions.

5 BIG Reasons to Go Automatic:

  • Learn Faster & Easier: Without complex gear changes to master, you'll build confidence rapidly and be test-ready much sooner.

  • Zero Stalling: Your car will never cut out. Say goodbye to the dread of stalling in busy traffic or rolling backward on a hill.

  • Maximum Safety: With no need to constantly shift gears, you can keep both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road.

  • It’s the Way Forward: Over 75% of new cars sold today are automatic (and all electric vehicles are automatic). Why learn the old way when you can learn the future way?

  • Perfect for Town Driving: Navigating heavy traffic, constant stop-start congestion, and tricky junctions is an absolute breeze.

How Simple Is It?

An automatic gearbox shifts gears for you based on your speed.

There is no clutch pedal—just an accelerator and a brake.

All you have to do is press the brake and select one of three simple settings:

  • DRIVE

Move off smoothly. The car does all the hard work for you while you focus on steering.

  • PARK

Puts the car in neutral and secures it so it won’t move when you're finished.

  • REVERSE

Engages the rear gear for easy, stress-free backing up.

And that’s it. It really is that simple!

What are EDT Driving Lessons?

EDT lessons (essential driver training) are 12 one hour driving lessons that are designed to teach a learner driver the core skills required to drive safely on the road.

Why do I need EDT Driving Lessons?

The RSA (Road Safety Authority) has deemed it mandatory to complete the 12 EDT Driving lesson programme before you can be issued with an RSA driving test date.

Who is required to complete the EDT Programme?

Any driver who has been issued an Irish learner permit on or after 04/04/2011 is required to complete the 12 hour EDT driving lesson programme. As you complete each module your approved driving instructor (ADI) must record your progress in your RSA EDT logbook.

What will I learn on the EDT Driving Programme?

Twelve lessons build one thing: a foundation. That's what Essential Driver Training actually is. Session 1 starts with car controls and safety checks. By Session 6 you're working on anticipation and reaction. Session 8 puts you into real traffic. Session 12 is night driving. Every session has its own objective. Each one gets logged on MyEDT by your ADI, and the RSA recommends leaving around two weeks between sessions so it actually sinks in rather than getting rushed through. Finishing all 12 means you're trained. It doesn't mean you're ready for the test. That comes from practice. When you book with me, I deliver and record every EDT session myself, one-to-one, in the dual-control automatic. ADI 43608. ADI 43608. That number is on the RSA register and you can check it yourself at rsa.ie. To get it, I passed a three-stage exam covering theory, practical driving, and instructional ability. I went through Garda vetting. My car is dual-controlled, insured for instruction, and kept roadworthy. That is what RSA approval actually means. It is a qualification, and it is verified by an independent authority. If you are wondering whether Go Automatic is a legitimate operation before you make contact, that is the honest answer. Message Declan if this sounds like you. goautomatic.ie/bookings/ #nogearsnofears #confidentsafedrivers #learnerdrivers #RSAapproved #loughreadrivingschool

Two or three days out. This is when the last-minute checks matter, not the excuses.

Work through this before test day:

✅ Oil, brake fluid, coolant and windscreen washer fluid: topped up.
✅ Tyres, brake lights and wipers: all working and legal.
✅ Windscreen: no cracks or chips.
✅ L-plates on display, front and back.
✅ Full tank of diesel or petrol.
✅ Car clean inside and out.
✅ No loose items in the car. None.
✅ No dashcam. It's not allowed in the car for the test.
✅ Proper footwear with a back on it. No flip-flops.
✅ No warning lights on the dash.
✅ Know your primary and secondary controls no excuses.
✅ Revise your road signs and hand signals.

Skip one of these and the test might not even start.

More tips coming. Follow along so you don't miss them.

Please share this with anyone sitting their test soon. 🙏

4 to 6 weeks before your driving test. That's when the prep actually starts.

Not the night before. Not the week before. Six weeks out.

Here's what needs to be checked now:

✅ NCT — is it in date?
✅ Car insurance — is the student's name on the policy as an insured driver? A disc on the windscreen won't cut it. You need a letter from the insurance company confirming the student's name on the policy.
✅ Car tax — disc in date?
✅ Learner permit — still valid?

Miss any one of these on test day and you won't be sitting the test. Full stop.

More tips coming. Follow along so you don't miss them.

Please share this with any student preparing for their driving test. 🙏
